CONCEPT | “Human Warmth” is a collage that observes an essential force of life in Brazil: walking together. In the image, hands meet above while two bodies support each other in front of the city. Above their heads, the African continent appears as a symbolic territory of memory and origin, reminding us that many of the roots that form Brazil crossed the ocean. The work approaches the African philosophy of Ubuntu, which states: “I am because we are.” An idea of collective existence that manifests in the way Brazilian people live: supporting, welcoming and building paths in community. In this territory of encounters there is also dengo: the exact moment of care and shelter after a hard day. The silent embrace between tired bodies that recognize each other through affection.

DETAILS | Authorial digital collage created from original photographs and graphic elements, exploring themes of ancestry, collectivity and affection in Brazilian everyday life.
